Upcoming 3.1 Warrior Glyph Changes

With patch 3.1, we’ll be getting some new glyphs, as well as some changes to existing glyphs.  Here are the ones I have seen for Warriors:


  • Glyph of Heroic Strike – Increases the critical strike chance of Heroic Strike by 5%. (Old: You gain 10 rage when you critically strike with your Heroic Strike ability.)
  • Glyph of Barbaric Insults – Your Mocking Blow ability generates 100% additional threat. (Old: Your Mocking Blow ability also taunts the target.)
  • Glyph of Sweeping Strikes – Reduces the rage cost of your Sweeping Strikes ability by 100%. (Old: You generate 30 rage over 12 sec when you use your Sweeping Strikes ability.)
  • Glyph of Overpower – Adds a 100% chance to enable your Overpower when your attacks are parried. (Old: 50%)
  • Glyph of Bladestorm (new) – Reduces the cooldown on Bladestorm by 15 sec.
  • Glyph of Shockwave (new) – Reduces the cooldown on Shockwave by 3 sec.
  • Glyph of Vigilance (new) – Your Vigilance ability transfers an additional 5% of your target’s threat to you.
  • Glyph of Enraged Regeneration (new) – Your Enraged Regeneration ability heals for an additional 10% of your health over its duration.
  • Glyph of Spell Reflection (new) – Reduces the cooldown on Spell Reflection by 1 sec.
  • Glyph of Shield Wall (new) – Reduces the cooldown on Shield Wall by 3 min, but Shield Wall now only reduces damage taken by 40%.


  1. I like the new Heroic Strike… I was about to drop it in favor of experimenting with some others but that looks like a solid keeper at first glance. I think I liked the old Barbaric Insults glyph better. The Shockwave glyph underwhelms me. Vigilance might not be bad if T8 closes the threat gap between DPS and Tank. Enraged Regen looks like a solid addition to the Oh Poop button, but I don’t know that I’d want to drop any of my current Majors for it. Spell Reflect would be nice for PVP. Hate that Shield Wall glyph. If you’re relying on Shield Wall as part of your regular mitigation and therefore needing a shorter cooldown, there are bigger problems in your raid than rounding out your glyph selection, in my never-really humble opinion. ;-)

  2. The shield wall glyph is so good as to be mandatory I guess. I quite like the enraged regen glyph too – with 35k health that’s a 14k heal…

    Nice that we will have a bit of choice in our glyphs.

  3. I dunno about that… I’d rather have the full 60% mitigation in an emergency than 40% when I don’t absolutely have to have it.

    The reason that the Shield Wall glyph could to be mandatory is because it moves us warriors closer to the mitigation model of DKs and Droods (but not Pallies as yet I guess?), with less powerful cooldowns available more often. It might therefore be something that fights are balanced around – like having dragon breaths once per minute for huge damage which relies on the use of a cooldown to survive (for example).

  5. I really hope that will not be a standard requirement for boss encounters – to have them deal such large damage spikes that you absolutely *have* to take those glyphs with you in order to perform well.

    I really don’t like what they did with Sarth 3D, how DKs are much much better at tanking the encounter for a normal raid (I say normal raid because some of the methods used by guilds that got the first kills worldwide make me shudder at the mere thought of how to do them efficiently. Using hunter pets to taunt Sartharion just before the breath?)

    Based on the infos given on the new glyphs, I think I will keep my three current glyphs – namely, HS, Revenge and Blocking. HS was the only one I was thinking about replacing, but the new HS glyph is just too good to be replaced.

  6. well, a glyph that has really made me jump up is the new last stand glyph, they changed the normal skill cooldown to 3 min, and 1.5 with the glyph, i mean, are they really planing so much damage peaks as to give so many cooldown reduce on major survival CD?

  7. dmg peaks are just speculation.. could aswell be a loatheb-kind of thing. but im hearing some bosses in ulduar hit like hatefull strikes from patchwerk with regular melee swings.. if thats true ill need zero seconds cooldown and shieldwall being stackable >.<
